Copenhagen Travel Information

Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen…

Lovely Tivoli Gardens and The Little Mermaid gazing out to sea, Denmark is the world’s oldest kingdom, and Copenhagen is a stylish city bursting with life and culture.

Until around 1850 the city was surrounded by a system of ramparts and moats. When eventually the population started moving outside this confinement, the fortifications were transformed into a series of green parks and the moats into lakes, helping to make it one of the most beautiful cities in northern Europe.

With historic buildings and ancient streets, dozens of world-class museums and galleries, the uniquely enchanting Tivoli Gardens and a resident monarchy which is the oldest in the world, the Danish capital has a host of attractions to suit all tastes. Despite being a capital city, you’ll find that Copenhagen is really quite small and easy to explore on foot. It is a vibrant city whose fascinating past coexists with the very latest trends in architecture, design and fashion. Copenhagen is one of the world’s great design capitals, a status that is reflected in its dynamic new buildings and stunning shops.

The lively funfair of Tivoli Gardens is usually top of everyone’s list of places to visit, but you shouldn’t forget the amusement park Bakken to the north of the city. Spend time browsing in Copenhagen’s museums which enjoy a deserved international reputation for their rich collections and inventive temporary exhibitions. The biggest museum is Nationalmuseet (the National Museum), but there are plenty more specialised museums such as the Tøjhusmuseet (the Armoury Museum) and Teater Museet (the Theatre Museum).
